Cash Register MIDI Controller (2018)

“Learning Resources” toy cash register converted into a playable USB MIDI controller.

The button matrix was rebuilt with perfboard and soft rubber buttons. The new matrix is read and processed into MIDI note messages with a PJRC Teensy 3.1 microcontroller.

This project was too fragile to be practical; I would not attempt it again. The buttons were wonky and not responsive enough for finger-drumming—the desired use case. However, it was sufficient for triggering MIDI events and effects.
